Bull Terriers Needing a Home
Harley

Harley

Age: 2
Sex: Male
Breed: Bull Terrier
Size: Standard
Colour: White
Reason for rescue: No fault of his own
Neutered: No
Vaccinated: Unknown
Medical history: Harley has no medical problems that we are aware of, he is sensitive to having his bedding washed with certain soap powders though but non bio powders seem to be ok.
Behavioural history: Harley was attacked by a brindle staffordshire bull terrier a while back & he now has a little fear agression with certain dogs. You can tell if he is likely to go into 'protective' mode as his tail will stop wagging !!
Likes: Harley loves attention, he likes have belly rubs & cuddles on the sofa. He loves chasing his tennis ball. He likes going in the shower & paddling in the river, he likes being brushed & he also now likes being hoovered (he was scared of the hoover when he first came into foster)!!
Dislikes: There is nothing really that Harley dislikes that i have noticed - apart from certain dogs.
Area: West Yorkshire
Summary: Harley is a beautiful 'small' bullie, he has a face that you just cant help falling in love with & a personality to match.

Harley is crate trained although he is happy to have the run of the house & can be left for around 6 hours.

Harley walks nicely on a collar & lead or harness but does pull a little if he sees something that takes his fancy.

he will come back to you if off the lead but should not be let off where there is a chance of him bumping into other dogs that he doesnt know because of his unpredictability with them.

Harley needs to be re-homed as an only dog unless he goes to an experienced bullie owner who has a very laid back bullie and who can keep the dogs seperate.

If you think Harley is for you then please fill in a questionnaire

Hetty

Hetty

Age: 5 - 7 years
Sex: Female
Breed: Bull Terrier
Size: Standard
Colour: White
Reason for rescue: Abandoned
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Medical history: Has dry eye
Behavioural history: Can occasionally be a little nervous
Likes: Adores lots of cuddles and kisses and fuss. Loves to trance and loves her walks. Loves food!
Dislikes: Not keen on other dogs sometimes, although this is being worked upon
Area: West Norfolk (under the care of the RSPCA Norfolk West)
Summary: Hetty is one very special girl. As you can see from the first picture she was in a very poor state when she was brought into the RSPCA Norfolk West kennels. She was found tied to a gate post and abandoned. She was emaciated, full of worms and her nails were so long they had curled round into her pads and in turn they had become infected. She had untreated dry eye, had an ear infection, an infected tooth that needed removing and of course had a terrible flea infestation and allergy which had caused a lot of hair loss on her back and down her thigh area. She was in a very very sorry state and close to giving up.

She is now in foster with me, is doing very well as you can see and the real Hetty is emerging. She is a wonderful character and has so much to give. She is an extremely loving dog and adores lots of kisses and cuddles and fuss. She likes to follow you about to see what you're up to and when you sit down she likes to rest her head on your lap (typical bullie). She enjoys her walks and is exceptionally good on the lead. She is having two 20-30 minute walks a day at present and this can obviously be increased as she gets her strength back and her leg muscles build up. She has been walked with dogs and was fine, but she does take a dislike to some dogs. I am working on this and it is going well. She loves to potter about in the garden and find things to trance under, the ivy on our wall is a great favourite of hers as is a small potted silver birch!

Having previously been starved she is obviously keen on food and eats well, but will sit for a treat!

She is housetrained and does not chew. We are leaving her with the run of the house when we go out and she has been left for up to 3 hours with no problems. She does not attempt to go upstairs at all. She could therefore be rehomed to where she might be left for a maximum of 3 hours a day. We would not be happy for Hetty to be left in a crate as she has clearly been confined previously and this is not something we wish to repeat for her. Ideally we would prefer someone to be around for most of the day with Hetty as she deserves to have plenty of good company after the neglect she has endured.

She is sometimes nervous of you touching her from behind and for this reason alone she needs to be rehomed to an adult only household (with no visiting young children). She needs time and patience to overcome her past ordeal and she will, in time, realise that she can relax totally without fear of being abused. We would also prefer her to go to a Bull Terrier experienced home who understand the breed.

She cannot live with another dog and has not been cat tested. I may be able to cat test her if necessary though.

Her dry eye needs to be treated regularly through the day to keep her comfortable, but she is wonderful with this and totally accepts her drops being put in and having her eyes wiped. The Viscotears can be brought relatively cheaply over the counter at any chemist.

Hetty has suffered terribly in the past, and deserves the very best of everything now and for the rest of her life. If you think you could offer her a loving, patient, and peaceful home with a comfy bed, nice walks and lots of attention then please contact me, Jo, on Bully4us@aol.com Hetty and I look forward to hearing from you.

Please mention you saw Hetty on the Bullies In Need Website.

Hannah

Hannah

Age: 16 months
Sex: Female
Breed: Bull Terrier
Size: Standard
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Area: Norfolk
Summary: Hannah is roughly 16 months old, is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. She would do best in a rural or semi-rural area as she loves and needs her exercise, but is not keen on other dogs. She is still only a young dog and will of course benefit from continued training, particularly lead work. She could be rehomed with sensible children of 13+ and can be left for reasonable periods and does not chew.

Ideally she needs someone with Bull Terrier experience, but experience with larger strong breeds would also be suitable. She cannot be rehomed with other dogs and probably not cats.

Hannah desperately needs a new home and family to call her own as she thrives on love and attention, but is sadly in kennels at present. She's only a young girl with hopefully a long life ahead of her where she can enjoy plenty of exercise, lots of love and cuddles, patience and firm rules to help her know her place within the 'pack'.

If you think you can give Hannah the type of home she needs please email Jo at Bully4us@aol.com

Hannah is under the care of the RSPCA Norfolk West.

Please mention you saw Hannah on the Bullies In Need Website.

Colour: White
Reason for rescue: Through no Fault of his own
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Medical history: Buster is a healthy boy, with no previous problems.
Behavioural history: Buster is very dominant and needs a firm experienced handler. He is also a little food aggressive while there is another dog around, but will sit and wait until told to take his food, he is food orientated and eats raw carrots whileI make Sunday lunch and learns quickly with food. He walks well on a harness but does need correcting from time to time.
Likes: Food and all the attention
Dislikes: Being excluded from the family and He dislikes getting no attention and will tail chase and bark if he feels ignored
Area: Manchester
Summary: Buster fights with the female dog in the house, and can be very dominant, Buster will need a firm experienced owner who can give him 100% so I feel he is best going to a home where he is the only dog, with no children.
Buster will wait in his crate with the door open until told to come out, he is a brilliant dog really, and just needs a bit of 'tweeking' to become the best he can.
Buster does love his water and loves having a bath, he is vaccinated up to date and just been fleed and wormed recently. He has dried food to eat and we don't use treats just bits of his dried food for training, chicken makes his stomach bad.

Tia

Tia

Re-homed

Age: 14 months
Sex: Female
Breed: Bull Terrier
Size: Standard
Colour: white with big black patch over one eye
Reason for rescue: change of owners circumstances
Neutered: No
Vaccinated: Yes
Medical history: just before xmas got run over and had one of her back legs pinned. The pin is out and she has started using her leg again. She may get arthiritus in this leg in the future.
Behavioural history: Tia needs lots of training when we got her two months ago. She is coming on really well. She is now house trained but still has the odd accident. She pulls on her lead and puppy nips when excited but this will stop with ongoing training.
Likes: Loves cuddles, walks, balls, chewing bones and most of all loves cuddling up to children. Loves to sneek upstairs and get into bed with my 9 year old daughter. Head on pillow and under covers.
Dislikes: balloons, feather dusters and sometimes will try and bite the hoover it depends on whether shes sleeping or not. She is getting better but does fret when in the car - presumably due to being run over but she is ok on cars driving past her.
Area: Kent
Summary: Tia is the loveliest bullie and is still growing and needs someone who can spend the time with her to train her and get her out of the typical bullie puppy bad traits.(nipping, begging for food) she loves excercise and is a more atheltic type bullie.

She does need spaying by the new owners and will be check that this happens.
She hasnt shown any aggression at all and has a lovely temperment.

She has grown up with a baby of the same age as her and also gets on great with my two kids aged 5 and 9. So have no concerns on her being rehomed with children.

Millie

Millie

Re-homed

Age: 1 year
Sex: Female
Medical history: Deaf (needs a experianced Bull Terrier home). Willl need to be neutered and this will be checked upon
Behavioural history: Food aggression, also is believed to have a food allergy.
Summary: Millie is a beautiful white mini bull terrier, a lovely healthy girl, with lots of energy.
She lives with her owner at present, and one other dog, and two cats.
She gets very excited when going out for a walk, but soon settles and walks well on a harness and lead.
She is not weary of strange dogs, as I took mine to visit for her assessment.
She can go to a home with children from the age of 8 years, this limit I have set because of her being deaf. Although if she goes to a deaf bullie experienced home, I don't see a problem with the children being younger.

Millie is just a bundle of Bullie fun, loves attention and lots of cuddles, and maybe another doggie mate for company. This girl is totally deaf, so therefore will not be allowed to be let of the lead.

Spartan

Spartan

Re-homed

Age: 8 months (born June 08)
Sex: Male
Breed: English Bull Terrier
Size: Standard
Colour: White
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Medical history: Clear
Behavioural history: Sadly Spartan was attacked by other resident male dog whilst playing, and as a result was fighting with the dog indoors. Owner reluctantly gave him up for re-homing and the following report is from his foster home. Spartan is a lovely little boy and has settled in very well. We have been using the crate which he has taken to; he sleeps all night with no problems. Any insecurity regarding men has not been evident, there are two resident men in our home and we have had male visitors and he has been fine. Both men in the household can cuddle him in their arms and Spartan loves it. He has met men out on walks with no bad reaction. We have walked him every night in the dark and we have seen no bad reactions, as a puppy he does sometimes stop if he is not sure, but with a bit of fun encouragement he carries on the walk. Not sure about the hover issue, we have a 'Henry' and we have been hovering him with it!!!!! haha he loves it. When moving the hover he does get very excited but no fear or aggression. We have been throwing his toys for him while we hover and rewarding him with treats and he focuses on them rather than the hover. He is reacting to the leave command very well. He sits for his dinner every time and also for treats and we are having success with the stay command. He is very eager to learn, you can take toys from him with no problems, move his feeding bowl with or without food no food aggression at all. He is kept on lead while out on walks, has met many dogs and though excitable he does fall in line and will walk well in a group of dog walkers. He has shown signs of dominance but not aggression. But due to his history we feel that he should not be allowed off lead with other dogs to be on the safe side. Regarding bikes we make him sit and keep him calm and allow the bike to pass; this is proving to be helpful as the bike is something more of an excitement trigger rather than fear or aggression. You can touch any part of his body we have looked in his mouth, touched his teeth, looked in ears and eyes, touched his back end and tail no problems at all. He loves being stroked; you can touch his feet and his individual toes. House training - he is walked 3 times a day, has been given access to the garden, he will stand at garden door to go out, we have had no accidents.
Area: South East
Summary: Spartan is a typical puppy and has been one of the easier ones to look after. He mouths very little and is easy to train. He has taken to the crate really well, will chew if left alone, but not excessive just normal puppy behavior. We have got him a nylar bone which he loves and a kong. He does not excessively chew. We have found that being calm with him keeps him calm and he is more than ready to go to his forever home when one is found for him. The only thing we have been unable to test fully is his reaction with children under ten. He became very vocal and excitable when he met our 4 yr old granddaughter (in the home on lead). Don t know if it was the restraining but he seemed very unsure. He has walked passed children and prams when out on walks and has been fine.

Re-homing - Spartan should ideally be the only dog in the home, whilst the fighting in the home was not instigated by him, it is preferred that he is the only dog so that the excellent training and work of his foster home can be continued and he can receive one to one attention. The fosterers report is testament that experienced efforts and time can be both rewarding and ensure a puppy matures into a well behaved adult dog.

Hope

Hope

Re-homed

Age: 4 years
Sex: Female
Breed: Bull Terrier
Size: Standard
Colour: White with brown patches
Neutered: yes
Vaccinated: Unknown
Medical history: Not Known but has had all clear by the vet
Area: South
Summary: Hope is a pleasure to have, she is clean in the house and I have left her ( with a stuffed Kong) for three hours with the run of my lounge and nothing was damaged. She is dog friendly and gets on very well with my two. She is very active and loves going for long runs but is also quite happy to sleep in her crate for hours after. Hope walks nicely on the lead but gets exited when she see's another dog and will pull to get to them, she will also chase small furries and people running so I would recommend that Hope is kept on a lead and would benefit from some re-call training.

Hope can jump a stairgate even when it is raised, so a secure garden is a must, she also get very exited when you come home and will jump up and nip, this has been worked on by ignoring her until she calms down and she is learning very quick. Hope is still abit thin but is happy and healthy, she has no food aggression issues and you can handle her bowl while she is eating.

I feel that Hope is ready for a home to call her own, I don't have as much time as I would like to spend with her as I have two of my own, so if you think you could give this girl a home with loads of cuddles and TLC then Hope is the one for you, and you will be rewarded by a loving and loyal little girl.

Joe

Joe

Re-homed

Age: 9 years
Sex: Male
Breed: Bull Terrier
Size: Standard
Colour: White
Area: Bristol
Summary: Joe is great with children and is a very laid back bullie. Joe is Crate trained and loves nothing more than to be given plenty of affection and cuddles.
Joe does not require a great deal of excercise, and is quite content with a couple of short walks a day, he is a very loving boy and loves nothing more than lazing around with his humans or on his bed.

Joe does suffer with some skin conditions. At times the irritation to his skin makes him chew at his feet and Joe should be corrected when doing this as it can make them sore.
From time to time he needs to visit the vet, and with medication it clears up quite quickly.
He does have some bad scaring that can be seen in the pictures, but we don't know what caused this as he had these scars when he was rescue'd.
Joe does not get on with other dogs, cats or small furries,so will have to be rehomed as a only dog.

Ollie

Ollie

Re-homed

Age: 8 Months Old
Sex: Male
Breed: Bull Terrier
Size: Standard
Neutered: No
Vaccinated: Unknown
Medical history: Deafness, other than that Ollie is a healthy boy.
Behavioural history: Does tend to get a little carried away during play, and starts to nip, but this is rectified by the use of water spray.
Area: West Midlands
Summary: Ollie is a typical bullie boy, loves to play and loves his cuddles. Happiest when playing and loves nothing more than playing tug of war. He needs to go to a home with experienced owners that can deal with or adjust to having a deaf boy around.

As with most bullies he is stubborn, and does need telling, or signing 3-4 times when he is being naughty, and I have found that back up with water spray does wonders.

Walks well on the lead, but does need checking if he starts to pull.

Likes to be showered if he has got dirty on a walk, and loves to be blow dried by the hairdryer.

He does know some deaf dog signs, but will need help to understand the sit command. Due to his deafness it is essential that Ollie is not let of the lead.

He can go to a home with another laid back dog, as he has lived happily with mine. Also can be rehomed with sensible children over the age of 10 years.

He sleeps in a cage at night with no problems at all, and does go to the back door if he needs to go out.

He is a happy boy, but does need a firm, but patient owner.

Sid

Sid

Re-homed

Age: 3 years
Sex: Male
Breed: Bull Terrier
Size: Standard
Colour: White with Brindle ear markings
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Medical history: Sid is DEAF and has had 2 previous ops due to eating things he shouldn't
Behavioural history: Sid is extremely loving even though he's deaf but he does seem to live in his own world if not stimulated, he will chew almost anything and has already eaten one bed whilst here. He wakes very easily when touched, without snapping or jumping, he also turns slowly when approached from behind. He has shown absolutely no signs of aggression to humans.
Likes: Sitting/Sleeping on the sofa, meeting new people, walking, seeing new things/travelling in the car.
Dislikes: Cats, Being Cold, Being left for too long
Area: South/Mid Wales
Summary: Sid is quite a relaxed dog, in typical Bullie style sleeping as much as possible. Sid will pull on the lead when in a new situation but on regular walks is fine. He does get excited by cats and most toys. He would be best as an only dog, and no cat's or other small furry creatures, though he has been fine so far with various breeds of dogs including bullies although most of these have been bitches.
It is probably best for Sid not to be rehomed with young children as he can get excitable at times although he is currently being handled by a dog savvy 7 year old.
In the house he is very nosey initially but he does have a fascination with kitchen units so settles better in the living room than in the kitchen and loves nothing more than cuddling up on the sofa. He sleeps well in his bed and is used to being crated both in the car & in the house. He is house trained and also messes in the same place when in the garden. He likes raw food but will eat tinned meat and dry dog food, he doesn't appear to have any food intolerances.

He responds well to touch and has started some hand signal training although this is taking time to master. He has always been treated well so has a lovely nature. He will not be able to ever be let off a lead unless in an enclosed garden due to his deafness.

At the moment he gets around an hour of walks a day. Half an hour in the morning and half an hour in the evening with access to the garden in between. He loves his walks and would ideally be suited to an active older couple who are happy to continue his training or an active family with older children who likewise would like to continue his training. I feel that once he has established a bond with someone he will make an extremely faithful friend. He does need someone who is going to allow him to be a big part of their lives. Currently his eating everything habit is being kept in check by making sure that he has constant access to things he can chew like bones and rawhide chews. Sid is good at the vets and is friendly with everyone he meets.

Sid is a lovely boy, with the most gorgeous bullie head, he is a true to type bullie, extremely handsome and finally getting fitter. He just needs a forever home.

Ollie

Ollie

Re-homed

Age: 2
Sex: Male
Breed: Bull Terrier
Size: Standard
Colour: White
Reason for rescue: Owners change in circumstances meant they no longer had the money or time to take care of him
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Medical history: Ollie has been deaf from birth
Behavioural history: He is a wonderful loving boy, but he doesnt seem to have been taught any basic sign language or other communication skills so he has just ignored any attemps to get his attention. He has now learnt the sit command & will sit for food, he is rather greedy & will try pinch any food that he can get his paws on.
He had been living outside for a while & seemed to have forgotten or had never been house trained, however he has picked this up quickly & very rarely has accidents now.
Likes: Ollie loves cuddles & laying in front of the fire, he likes playing with his Nylabone but doesnt really seem to know what to do with any other toys that he has. He does need to be watched if playing outside as he seems to be a bit of an escapologist, (I caught him climbing up the fence trying to get over a few times)
Dislikes: I havent found anything yet that Ollie dislikes, he is just happy to be in a nice warm home with a family that loves him.
Area: West Yorkshire
Summary: Ollie has a wonderful nature & will make someone a really loving pet, he needs to be with someone who will take time to learn how to comunicate with him through basic sign language. He is crate trained & is happy to be left a few hours without any problem.
Due to Ollie being underweight, he is currently wearing a fleece hoodie all the time so that he isnt burning off any more weight whilst trying to keep warm..

Due to his deafness, Ollie cannot be allowed off his lead/harness.

If you feel that you could offer Ollie the home that he so rightly deserves, please complete the questionaire. Please do not be put off by his deafness as it really does not deter him from living life as any hearing dog would.

Frankie

Frankie

Re-homed

Age: 3 years
Sex: Male
Breed: Bull Terrier
Size: Standard
Colour: Red with White Socks
Neutered: No
Vaccinated: Yes
Medical history: Frankie has had hair loss from being stressed in the past, mostly on his tail.
Behavioural history: Frankie will mouth when over excited. He will spin if he feels that he is not getting another attention (though he is not very demanding most of the time)
Likes: Sitting/Sleeping on the sofa, meeting new people, being wrapped up warm
Dislikes: Larger Dogs/Cats, Water, Being Cold, having his paws touched
Area: South West
Summary: Frankie is quite a relaxed dog, in typical Bullie style sleeping as much as possible. Strong and stubborn, he does like his own way on walks (peeing and sniffing as much as possible) and will pull on the lead so will require quite a firm hand. He does get excited by bikes/prams/noisy cars and would like nothing more than to dash after them so it is best to keep a firm grip on his lead. He can be dominant with other dog's, especially larger Male's. He would be best as an only dog, and no cat's or other small furry creatures, though he could benefit from interaction with other dogs under supervision. He is intact at the moment so it is a good idea for him to be neutered at the earliest opportunity in the hope that this would help with some of his dominance issues.

It is probably best for Frankie not to be rehomed with young children as he can get excitable at times and can be a little mouthy, though once put in his place he does calm down quickly. In the house he is very settled, and loves nothing more than cuddling up on the sofa. He sleeps well in his bed and has not shown any signs of being destructive, and is fine to be left.

He will need quite a strong hand as he is typically very stubborn. I think that more training would be an idea, he needs to be kept on a lead when out in a public place, and would really benefit from being rehomed with someone with previous Bullie experience he can give him the right amount of guidance.

At the moment he gets around 3 hours of walks a day. An hour in the morning, 30 mins at lunch, and then a longer walk later in the afternoon/evening with a short walk in the evening before he goes to sleep to relieve himself, though access to a garden could cut this down.

Frankie is a lovely boy, who often get's comments of admiration from strangers over his lovely colour and shape, and once settled he would make someone an ideal companion

Dylan

Dylan

Re-homed

Age: 7 years
Sex: Male
Breed: Bull Terrier
Size: Standard
Colour: Tri
Reason for rescue: Dylan has been in kennels since March when he was collected after a call to the RSPCA. Dylan was nearly dead due to malnourishment.
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Medical history: Dylan arrived weighing 16kg due to malnourishment. Dylan now weighs 26kg but is a big boy and needs more weigh gain & his spine and ribs are still visible. Dylan has nose scarring but no different to any bully. Dylan and all the kennel had a bout of kennel cough in May but all is cleared and no problems since. Dylans fur was originally in bad condition so he has evening primrose oil and cod liver oil regular and as a result his fur and skin are in fab condition.
Behavioural history: According to kennel staff Dylan can get very excited first thing in the morning and can jump up and nip thighs, however our assessor did not witness this behavior.
Area: Swansea
Summary: Dylan is a lovely boy, full of energy and does not give a hint of what he went through in his previous years. He is full of live and love and just wants to share his love and attention with somebody.

Dylan really enjoyed his sausages we took him and I left with all of my fingers! He was sitting but didn't respond to any other commands.

Dylan is very lively for his age, I suppose he is making up for lost time spent with his previous owner.

Dylan is a stunning looking dog with really slitty eyes and a big smile.

Dylan loves walking and at present the kennel are doing the best they can by walking him 3 times a day but is still raring to go further.

Dylan shows no aggression to humans or other dogs. Whilst being walked along corridors in kennels with dogs barking on either side Dylan did bark back but appeared more frightened than aggressive. I will assess this further by taking my own dog. I cannot foresee any problems.

Dylan loves behind his ears being tickled and gave my partner lots of sloppy kisses. I felt guilty leaving him because he could have stayed lapping up the attention all night.

The kennel are trying hard with him and spending extra time with him e.g. taking him to sit in the office where possible and taking him for extra walks.

The kennel has limited contact to only the two supervisors visiting him because they are worried about his nipping and his strength. I am concerned that this will only lead to more behavioral problems as on the whole he is becoming further isolated and unsocialized. He is living in an isolation block where no one other than the supervisors go. He is the only dog in this block.

I would love to bring him home myself because he has so much love to give but don't think Olly would like to share the love.

I think he's going to be a big strong boy because he's got more filling out to do and is already very tall. I canâ t wait to see him looking in top shape!
