We were contacted by a lady concerned about a dog that has been living in very bad conditions for some time, owned by a person with a serious drink problem. For some time people connected to a local rescue had been trying to persuade him to give up the dog but he wouldn't.
Eventually they managed to wear him down and he agreed to let the rescue take him, the problem now was that they didn't have anywhere for him to go, but knew they couldn't let the opportunity pass. This is where good rescues help one another for the sake of the dog and they got in touch with us to ask if we could help. All our usual kennels were full and as we were unable to have access to do any sort of assessment and had no way of knowing what this dog was like. We knew he had been kept in a flat and never taken out and we had no doubts that he would have been abused as well as neglected.
As luck would have it another kennels in Stoke had the day previously offered us the use of some of their kennels at a reduced rate and we had decided that we would use  them for emergency use only, mainly because it is difficult to raise enough money for the amount of kennels we already use and we really can't commit to more money going out on a regular basis.
At least this would provide a short term solution for this boy.
Volunteers took him to Stoke where he was taken in by Julie and Mick for a while before they took him on to the kennels. This is their first impressions of him;   He arrived this evening. We have called him Jack. Terrified and skinny. He has beautiful blue eyes and is afraid to look at anyone. He just cowers. He has  been beaten badly I would say. He wouldn't eat in front of us but when we left the room he ate all the food. He had a poo and when Mick picked it up he cowered flat to the floor and Mick just stroked him and told him it was ok. He went to the kennels in the car and was fascinated by the outside world. Settled into a large heated kennel and snuggled in a large fleecy blanket like he had never seen such comforts. He walked past all the other dogs and totally ignored them. Surprisingly he walks well on a lead and doesn't pull.

Jack will get every care we can give him, once he has settled sufficiently he will have a vet check and will eventually be neutered. Meanwhile Julie and Micky will visit regularly and get him used to the enjoyable side of life. We are hopeful that he can be fully rehabilitated and enjoy a normal life.
We would like to say thank you to everyone involved in the rescue of Jack, it just shows what can be done when people work together for the good of the dog.
If you can help with the cost of Jacks care please Paypal to bin@bull-terriers.co.uk any help would be appreciated.
We will put occasional updates onhere

Grace as she is now known is the girl who's story appears below. It's amazing how much a dogs life can change so much in a matter of days.Last week she was on the put to sleep list, thought to be a risk due to agression, now look at her! She is settling in the kennels ok, has made friends with Louise, the lady who looks after our dogs, and is much more relaxed. She loves playing with the Boomer ball and as she does her tail doesn't stop wagging. If she carries on improving it won't be long before we will be looking for her special home. She has shown no signs of aggression whatsoever.

_Have been dealing with a really sad story today, some of you will have heard about the dogs at Hull pound that were going to be put to sleep this week, amongst them is an American bulldog bitch which I was offering to take but couldn't get much info and I needed her assessed as the only place available was a foster home with other dogs. I heard she may have a temperament problem and that she couldn't be trusted. After talks with the people it turned out that yes she does have an issue with people and on pressing a bit further it turns out that this girl was pregnant when she went into the pound, very near to be giving birth. So what do they do? Do they get on the phone and ask if any rescue can take her? No they take her to the vets and have her spayed, murdering her babies. Since then she has had problems, are your surprised? No neither am I ! I am shocked, angry and extremely upset. Why didn't they ask for our help before? Of course now it means she can't go to the foster home, we are over our limit of dogs we can afford in the kennels and already have a vets bill as long as your arm. If she had a good temperament before humans let her down then there is every good chance that with some work and tlc she will become her old self again. We CANNOT let her down again, humans owe her big time. We have the kennel booked for her but we do need your help. I am not asking for money, but I am begging you to help us to raise the funds for her. Anything you can do will be appreciated. We are all so busy raising our usual funds that we need help with this. Thank you

If you can help with a donation we will of course appreciate it you can send via
Paypal  to bin@bull-terriers.co.uk or a cheque made payable to Bullie Run sent to address on Contact page

Looking at her here she doesn't seem to have a care in the world but looks can be very deceiving. She does get to trust people she knows but it is a slow process.

No its not the name of one of our dogs! It is a company that produces various exhibition and display products and they are running a competition with the prize being vouchers to spend on their items. The link to their site is;

Anyone who has been with me on our stand at a fundraising event will know how I like the stand to look 'just so'. This isn't because I am obsessed with neatness (just look at my living room!), but because people at events have the choice of several stalls to visit and you need to stand out from the crowd to attract them to ours. Then when they get there they need something to look at to keep them there. We don't just take the stall to events to raise money but for awareness too and to get the information over we need a good display, which at the moment consists of a cork board leant against a table, it serves it's purpose to a degree, but it isn't easy for people to read and certainly doesn't look that attractive, despite us doing our best to make it so. We did have a table top display board but it was borrowed by an ex volunteer and sadly never returned and we can't justify spending that amount of money again as it is money that could be used directly for the dogs. I have now learned my lesson on who to let use pieces of kit!
If we could win the Table Top Kit we would get a tablecloth with our logo, a lovely table top display board where we could display the dogs needing homes plus advice on neutering, chipping etc. and a literature stand for the handouts we usually have to chase all over the field when a gust of wind blows!  This would help enormously, hopefully would not only help to find homes for dogs but educate the public on responsible dog ownership too. Our stand would look more professional and I am sure the public would be drawn to it as they walked by. We work very hard on a voluntary basis to spread awareness of bull breeds and it would be fantastic to get encouragement by winning the competit

The picture below shows our stand at a recent show, how much better would it be if we could win the competition!

Firstly a huge thank you to everyone who has responded to our appeal and donated towards  Ramsey's treatment. We haven't yet reached the total needed but have managed to raise enough to have the op done without spending too many sleepless nights wondering how we are going to pay for it!

So due to your generosity the operation went ahead this morning as scheduled. Ramsey is now recovering but the next 48 hours are critical

The picture was taken at Ramsey's foster home a few days before the op.
More news will be added when we have some.
